A Little Closer to Normal
A new season, a new setup, and a second chance to do what I love.
The Horror Dork Relaunch is officially underway.
And I can’t explain it, but things feel different this time.
There’s something in the air, something electric.
It’s like I can feel Horror Dork breathing.
As for what’s become the usual chaotic state of affairs while I scramble to get everything ready for the relaunch, I was squatted over, knee deep in gear, untangling cables, testing mics and mixers, trying to make the entertainment corner of my tiny apartment look and feel more like a studio, when my kid decided to throw on Deadstream (2022) on Netflix.
Just like that, I was derailed. Nothing kills my momentum faster than a horror movie I haven’t, or rarely have seen, playing in the background.
And to think he swears he doesn’t even like horror anymore, mostly because of the Void incident.
What’s the Void incident, you say? Funny you should ask.
Quick backstory: my son used to bug me nonstop, asking me, “What’s the scariest movie you’ve ever seen?”
After months of pestering, I finally snapped and said, “Fine, The Void!”
I knew I’d messed up the second it came out of my mouth.
He couldn’t find it at first because I hid the Blu-ray, but eventually he watched it at a friend’s house. And what do you know, he’s thirteen and terrified to go to bed, like he’s five again.
That movie broke him for a while. For months, I couldn’t even mention The Void without him tensing up worse than a cat on a tight rope. Poor kid. Lesson learned: never ever send the Horror Curious anywhere near the deep end of the genre.
Anyways, back to the point. I’m excited for the Horror Dork relaunch. I’m excited for Media Massacre.
And I hope you are too.
When we roll out Season 2 of Horror Dork Live, it won’t be fireworks and chaos, it’ll be familiar, but different.
It’ll feel right again.
The truth is, I’m just grateful to be here doing this.
Last March, pneumonia, brought on from the flu and stomach surgery, nearly killed me.
It hit fast, and being a heavy vaper didn’t help.
Waking up from that coma felt like getting another chance, one I don’t intend to waste.
Every day I breathe a little easier, and every day I get closer to doing what I love again: talking horror with all of you.
So here’s what’s next:
- Media Massacre will be our YouTube home, where I’ll team up with the guys to dig into movies, physical media, and horror culture.
- Horror Dork Live returns soon with a new look, new energy, and the same twisted heart.
- The Discord is open to everyone; honestly, it’s free, no gatekeeping. Come hang out and talk shop.
- If you want to support what we’re doing long-term, the Patreon is always there, but first, just join the conversation.
This is Antheny, signing off for now.
Thanks for sticking with me through the rough patches.
Here’s to breathing easier, watching scarier movies, and making this Halloween season one to remember.
Thanks for sticking with me through the rough patches and being part of this Horror Dork relaunch.
Stay spooky.
